It was the Roman poet Horace who first used the phrase ‘Carpe Diem’ to express the idea that one should enjoy life while one can: to seize the day.
Is that what you did in 2017?
Maybe you felt stuck in a rut going through the motions or putting things off, thinking “I will do that tomorrow”.
Almost two thousand years ago the ancient Greek writer, Seneca, wrote: “It is not that we have so little time, but that we have wasted so much of it“.
St. Paul wrote to Greek Christians, centuries later in Ephesus: “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise men (and women) but as wise, making the most of the time.”
Do you feel that you made the most of 2017?
We really are the authors of our own lives and so it is with each day that we live.
Every morning invites us to begin again, to start a new page.
We believe that there is no failure, only feedback. We learn from lessons from the past and move forward in the present to create a new future.
2018 can be so very different from years that have gone before if we make the decision to change.
Resolutions don’t always last out January, but that doesn’t mean we can’t seize the day any day of the year….so, what is it you really want to do?
If this was the last year of your life, how would you spend it? Perhaps you would:
- travel, visit somewhere you’ve always wanted to go?
- study or learn a new skill?
- commit to a relationship, or end an unhappy one?
- seek promotion or change your career?
- take up a hobby?
- get fitter?
- have the figure you’ve always wanted?
Personally, I would tell everyone I love that I love them! I’d travel and try things I’ve never tried before…yes, possibly even jumping out of an aeroplane (with a parachute I might add – I’d want to make it to the end of the year). I’d stick with my job – because I love it, but do more of it perhaps.
But why wait hypothetically until you think it’s the last year of your life? Carpe Diem.
What is stopping you from living life to the full right now or more to the point, what do YOU currently believe that is stopping you?
Letting go of old beliefs can help create exciting changes for us all. We can all develop beliefs that we can’t do something or we shouldn’t do something or we mustn’t do something. Some beliefs are really important to us and we wouldn’t want to change them; others are not so helpful and beliefs don’t have to be lived as truths.
Donna and I can help you let go of limiting beliefs, get unstuck and have a full and exciting year in 2018. You really can create a totally new chapter in 2018.
